Cerebral palsy, torticollis in babies, a child not walking, delayed milestones, low muscle tone, knock knees, bow legs, clubfoot, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome.
For parents who have been told to wait
Most parents who come here have already been told by somebody that the child will grow out of it. Sometimes that is true. Knock knees and bow legs at certain ages correct themselves, and plenty of children simply walk late.
But some things do not correct themselves, and they get harder to treat the longer they are left. Torticollis, cerebral palsy and clubfoot all respond far better to treatment that starts early. The only way to tell the two groups apart is an assessment.
If you are worried, come and find out. An appointment that ends with "this is normal, here is why" is not a wasted appointment.
How children are treated here
Treatment for a child is mostly play, positioning and movement, and most of it happens at home between appointments rather than in the clinic. So a large part of the job is teaching the family what to do and checking it is being done correctly.
Dr. Zahra uses exercise therapy, manual therapy, positioning, stretching and splinting where it is needed. Electrotherapy, ultrasound, TENS, dry needling and hijama are not used on babies and young children.
Go to a doctor, not a physiotherapist, if
A child loses a skill they already had. A child who was sitting and has stopped sitting, or who was walking and has stopped walking, needs a doctor urgently. The same applies to a sudden change in muscle tone, where a child suddenly becomes stiff or floppy.
Some conditions here need an orthopaedic surgeon, a paediatrician or a child neurologist leading the care, with physiotherapy supporting. Clubfoot is one. You will be told plainly which it is.
